CLOSING OF THE 4th UNIVERSITY CONGRESS OF FLAMENCO DANCE OF THE CÁTEDRA OF FLAMENCOLOGY

At midday today, the fourth edition of the University Congress of Flamenco and Spanish Dance, which has been carried out throughout the week within the official program of the International Flamencology Faculty of Cante de las Minas and the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), was closed out with great success.

Since last Monday, students have received intensive training: in the morning, with practical workshops in choreography and the technique of the flamenco dance of taranto, and in the afternoon, lectures, visits and round-table discussions on current issues in the world of Spanish dance.

This Fourth Congress of Flamenco and Spanish Dance is the first to be held in the Flamencology Faculty with university endorsement from the UCAM, and the international prestige of the Cante de las Minas Foundation.

The closing ceremony included the participation of the CEO of the Cante de las Minas Foundation and La Unión Mayor, Francisco Bernabé, the Dean of the Faculty of Sports of the UCAM,  Antonio Sánchez Pato, and the director of the Congress, dancer and choreographer Marcos Flores, winner of the National Award for Flamenco Dance.

Francisco Bernabé stressed the importance that education in the world of flamenco be consolidated at the university level, thus giving maximum academic status to the teaching imparted by this faculty.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Sport of the UCAM, Antonio Sánchez Pato, gave a very positive assessment of the Congress, highlighting the high attendance, noting that it could be attributed to the presence of Marcos Flores, a well-respected dancer and choreographer. The Dean also described as “unbeatable” the rapport shared by the University and the Cante de las Minas Foundation.

Lastly, dancer Marcos Flores, who was in charge of giving classes during these five days, was also very pleased about how the Congress had transpired.  Marcos Flores underlined the high level of all the students, and their excellent attitude to get the most out of the time spent.

All the participants received their diplomas from the hands of the authorities present at the ceremony.
