“TAUROMAQUIA FLAMENCA” SOLIDARITY: ANOTHER GREAT NOVELTY FROM THE CANTE DE LAS MINAS 2014

The 54th edition of the Cante de las Minas de La Unión Festival comes with plenty of surprises. One of the newest is a show that is based on flamenco singing and bullfighting: “Tauromaquia Flamenca”, whose proceeds will go to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).

Today, the people in charge of presenting this premiere were the Executive Chairman of the Cante de las Minas Foundation and Mayor of La Unión, Francisco Bernabé, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities, Manuel Sánchez Marcos, with the President of the  AECC in Murcia, Agustín Navarrete. The chosen venue was the Club Taurino de Murcia.

«Tauromaquia Flamenca» is a show designed to highlight the beauty of two of the most representative artistic expressions of Spain, closely related to each other over the years: bullfighting and flamenco singing. This combination of bullfighting and music will star the singer to be honored at this year’s Cante de las Minas Festival, Estrella Morente, who will be accompanied by another great star of flamenco singing, Arcángel.»They will put the voices, and will accompany with their songs the fighting of three bulls from the Murube livestock ranch and carried out by the maestro Javier Conde.

The Mayor of La Unión and president of the Cante de las Minas Foundation, Francisco Bernabé, explained that the Cante de las Minas has endeavored in recent years to care for, protect and promote the wonderful world of bullfighting from the point of view of the art of flamenco.  According to Bernabé, «Tauromaquia Flamenca” is another example of our interest in bullfighting, which will certainly have its culminating moment on August 10th, when a well-deserved tribute will be offered to the maestro Juan Antonio Ruiz “Espartaco”, with the presentation to this legendary matador of the Gold Castillete of the Festival, our highest institutional distinction».

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Manuel Marcos Sánchez, highlighted the constant efforts of the Cante de las Minas Foundation to renew itself and make this festival a «a point of encounter where flamenco shares space with other disciplines such as fine arts, cinema, literature, gastronomy, or in this case, bullfighting».  «In addition, the Festival wants to give back to society all the support it receives, so this event has a supportive nature of solidarity which will surely help to raise public awareness about the importance of the fight against cancer,» emphasized Manuel Marcos Sánchez.

The date is next Wednesday, August 13, at 8:00 pm in the bullring of the hotel complex «La Cartuja» (formerly «Cortijo de Juárez») in La Unión. Tickets, priced at 35 euros, will go on sale next Monday, July 28, at the Tourist Office of La Union, located in the Town Hall (Casa del Piñón).

The presentation ceremony was also attended by the President of the Murcia delegation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, Fernando Navarrete, who thanked the gesture of solidarity of the Cante de las Minas Foundation in donating profits from the earnings of “Tauromaquia Flamenca” to the AECC.

Navarrete stressed that all economic aid towards the work of the Association is important, but just as important, or more so, is to raise awareness that promotional gestures such as this, serve to remind the whole of society that cancer is a disease that can affect any one of us.

A total of 200 tickets will be put on sale for «Tauromaquia Flamenca», due to the reduced capacity of the venue.
