THE CANTE DE LAS MINAS IS AWARDED THE GOLD MEDAL FOR MERIT IN THE FINE ARTS
The Council of Ministers of the Government of Spain has agreed in today’s meeting, Friday March 14, 2014, to grant the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts to the International Festival del Cante de las Minas de La Unión.
The decision is a milestone in the history of flamenco, as it is the first festival of flamenco music to receive this recognition, as well as at the regional level, since it is the first event of the Autonomous Community of Murcia to hold such a distinction.
The awarding of the Gold Medal was carried out at the request of petitions in this regard from the Cante de las Minas Foundation, which in recent years has gathered hundreds of supporters from the most important flamenco artists in the world, in addition to the most noteworthy representatives of the social, cultural and political life of our country, who unanimously support what is needed and appropriate for the success of the initiative.
Our Mayor and CEO of the Cante de las Minas Foundation, Francisco Bernabé, has expressed the immense satisfaction of the people of La Unión and the great family of the Cante de las Minas Festival for this distinction, the most important cultural level granted in Spain, and which legally and definitively situates the Festival of the Cante de las Minas as the most important of all flamenco events taking place in our country, which is to say the world.
