Artist Cristina Iglesias will attend the presentation of her work in a ceremony that will also feature performances of the last winner of the Lámpara Minera, Jeromo Segura.

At 8:00pm, the facilities of the Regional Assembly of Murcia located in Cartagena, will once again be the venue to host the official presentation of the poster of the fifty-fourth annual International Festival of Cante de las Minas.

Acting as hosts of the event, will be the President of our regional parliament, Favorite Son of La Unión, Francisco Celdran, and our Mayor and Executive Chairman of the Cante de las Minas Foundation, Francisco Bernabé, who will be joined by the sculptor and painter Cristina Iglesias, a great artist of international renown who this year designed the poster for the flamenco festival of La Unión and will herself be presenting it.

After the unveiling, there will be a flamenco performance by Jeromo Segura, most recent winner of the Lámpara Minera, who will be accompanied on guitar by Rosendo Fernández.

Francisco Bernabé explicitly wishes to invite all flamenco fans and persons interested in culture to come to enjoy the event which is free entrance to capacity of the venue. 


Cristina Iglesias was born in San Sebastian in 1956. This sculptor and engraver, was winner of the National Arts Award and one of the most international Spanish artists of recent decades.

Cristina Iglesias first became known in the early part of the 1980s, and her international recognition came in the 90s when her work could already be seen in prestigious museums such as the Kunsthalle Bern (Switzerland) (1991), in the York University gallery in Toronto (Canada), the Universal Exposition of Seville (1992), in the Spanish pavilion at the Venice Biennale and the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh (USA) (1995).

The Guggenheim Museum in New York gave her a show (1997), which subsequently went to the Guggenheim in Bilbao (1998), the Palacio de Velázquez in Madrid (1999) and Chicago (2000).

Cristina Iglesias reappeared in 2007 with her door-sculpture for enlargement of the Prado Museum, her first public work within Spain.

The San Sebastian sculptor has works in museums and collections worldwide, including the National Center of Art and Culture Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Fundação Serralves in Porto, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum and Garden Sculpture of Washington, DC, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) Dublin, Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) of Madrid and the Tate Gallery in London.
